Any Plans to Restore "Progress" to Existing Players?
« on: 17 April, 2017, 22:54:36 pm »
Greetings all,

I have heard rumors that the Admins of the Venatus Empyrion servers plan to restore "things" to active players on the server.  The comment was "ships" but I wanted to get a full understanding of your plans.  Are we expecting to lose all of our structures, equipment and resources with 6.0 or will some or all things be returned to us?  What about what is in our blueprint factories?

I had another plan in the works but its was based entirely on the idea that we were going to lose everything at the patch.  So I kinda want to work out what is happening.

What has happened in the past is admins have restored large 100% hand made ships after the reset.
It will be grabbed directly from the old server so you have to do nothing to prepare.

This will not affect your level status or personal holdings!

Just to clarify:
A) this is no guarantee this will happen again.
B) if you downloaded a blueprint, or designed it in creative it is not covered (it had to be made 100% in survival mode).
C) They may ask for a 10% materials charge to restore it.
D) Your Ship, etc. will not be restored right away, it will be done when you are at a similar development level.
E) If your ship exceeds new limits (too many weapons, etc.) it will be limited to being a museum piece (If it is seen in PVP it will be taken away from you).

Thank you.

This is the rumor I had heard.  However I wanted to hear from the Admin team exactly how they were planning to handle this.  For starters rewarding someone who has a personally designed ship but didn't save it as a blueprints sounds ridiculous.   I also have a ship that was made from a blueprint but has been heavily modified.  Does that make it unique?  This strange gift ship seems pretty weird.

Also I wanted to find out about level progress, Bases, Materials and equipment, Survival Constructors and so on.  It would be terribly unfair if someone stumbled upon a way to move material from pre to post Patch but didn't share it.   It also allow me to plan things like an all out fleet or tank war just before server wipe.

So if the Admins have any plans to do anything other than reset everyone to zero at the patch I would greatly appreciate a response.  I am not opposed to a zero reset.  I just want to plan ahead.

I'm more on the side of complete wipe, everyone resets, no admin help at all (other than glitch help obviously)

Please re-read my reply i answered all your questions in that.
Furthermore if anyone has a large custom ship they ask to be restored which happens to have it's cargo boxes loaded full of zascosium or erestium for example... we're not idiots; we'll make such hidden caches disappear!

Hi all,

In regards to the question about restoring ships/structures from Alpha 5.x, I have no intentions of doing this going into v6.

Why? Well, probably for your own good - there are a lot of difference between the versions and chances are you will need to do a lot of modifications of existing creations anyway. Some of your blueprints you probably won't even be able to use now anyhow.

While the server hardware will remain the same, I am creating a whole new game with v6. I even have it running at the moment with our starter planets and some others. You will see it in the listing of multiplayer games available. When you go to multiplayer, and join, you will see our v5.x server, and the new v6 server - so I will just turn off the old one once v6 comes out live.

Hopefully this clears up everything.

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Any chance of getting a login for the venatus v6.0 experimental server? I am just keen to try 6.0 out.

You'd have to delete all my stuff before it goes live, maybe reset a planet or two, and then I may have an unfair advantage knowing where all the things are...

In hindsight, it is probably not worth it unless you need help testing stuff out.

I went experimental a few days ago just to climatise. I've been in single player mode.
I'd be happy to try out the Venatus EXP6 server, but as G.P said it would kinda be unfair seeing it before the other players.

Hey guys,

I won't let anyone join the test v6 server because I am still making changes, so it would be rather pointless.
Mainly though, I would like everyone to start afresh without any prior knowledge of the universe as well.

I suggest you join the experimental branch and try out v6 for yourselves though. If you want to still play on our server, just copy all your v5.x files into a new folder on your PC, and launch Empyrion.exe from that folder if you want to join the server. You can have both copies running to give you server compatibility for 5.x, and single player experimental v6.

That's what I do.

Andy.
