My Moon Trip - Raging Tank Battle
« on: 31 October, 2017, 06:53:13 am »
We had come across some bases on the moon that were giving us funny looks... It was making us a bit nervous while we were scouting out some meteorites to mine. Something had to be done!

Murder Boner and myself prepared some lovely HV tanks for the mission and docked them up to Syrass's CV and off we went.

We approached from the South and managed to develop some hull down positions on the edge of a crater which put our artillery into range. Shortly after commencing to strip the Turrets, the evil occupiers began to notice our presence and charged full speed into the fray in their HVs towards our position. One broke off and tried to flank to our right. Luckily Sy in over watch spotted the maneuver and we were able to cut him off and deal some significant damage.

However, with 3 HV's still approaching our position against our 2 HVs and a CV, it was time to beat a tactical retreat (also Murder had to go to the shops).

Round two...

Murder and I took our HVs back to the moon aboard a CV. We landed to the South in a crater to keep the CV hidden and then swung around the bases to approach them from the North West. Through careful use of ground and jockeying of our tanks we were able to strip the remaining turrets. No sight yet of the enemy. it was a boring battle of give and take against some well positioned base turrets but soon the ground was ours.

We were able to capture a mining HV with a precious cargo of 10k crushed rock. Victory! but during the loot we were spotted. Running tank battle ensues. Initially only facing one enemy HV, the day was ours but not wanting to press our victory we swung back around to the south to conduct our withdraw. We approach the crater. There in the basin is a smoking pile of wreckage. Murder moved off to conduct repairs while I foolishly stayed to salvage what was left. Our discord chat revolved around how we were to get off this god forsaken rock.

I see lights... and Smoke! another HV approaches and starts dealing damage during my salvage operation. A quick retreat to Murder's position and it became a 2v2 tank fight over undulating ground to the East of the enemy base. We needed to get this crushed rock to safety..

Sy comes to the rescue in another CV but everytime we attempt to conduct a combat dock and withdraw, Smoke is there! it was tense and panicked but we drove him back to his hidey hole so that we could retreat.

While the battle raged for an hour, the only signs that it ever occurred are the crushed rock filling my cargo hold and the scattered remains of the enemy tanks across the battlefield

Now it is time to build a monument to this battle and the fallen CV's out of all the rock we captured.

(NB: The enemy's recollection of events may differ)

Awesome story Geoff. I have to say, I didn't realise crushed rock meant so much? :)

Good to see some good PvP happening!

Andy.

I would suggest though that that Artemis Tank Smoke rides around in was not as tough as ours  :)
